The Adults are Talking

Artist's Note: While my cousin was getting ready to be married, my other, smaller, and much younger cousin was getting ready to walk down the aisle too. Of course, she isn’t getting married but she is there to look ever-so-cute. She entered the bridesmaids' room with a huge smile from ear to ear, smoothing down her dress with her tiny and pink-painted hands. "Do you feel beautiful?" I asked. She beamed, "Yes," and looked into the big mirror before her.

I can't help but look at this teeny girl and feel the joy in her eyes while my cousin is surrounded by friends and family on her big day. Stress and tears are not on her mind, unlike the rest of us. She is just concerned with being a part of this beautiful female environment. It's an innocent and youthful moment. It makes me envious I cannot see myself or the world like she can now, but for a moment I can feel that child I once was.
