Poetry, Jedidiah Vinzon
vināśam avyayasyāsya na kaścit kartum arhati
(no one is able to destroy the imperishable soul)
—Bhagavad Gita 2.17
i am convinced of the day
even when under the clouds
i am convinced of the wind
especially when the trees recoil
from the hand of the ocean
do you think they think –
the water when it licks
the toes of the shore?
doesn’t a pig munch at the trough
the way the salt bites the air?
is the slender of the beach
the curve of a forgotten woman?
is she doing what she loves
or cursed to sell her soul again?
i am convinced of the mother
in the roots of the tree.
