rebirth

Poetry, Devon Riddick

the dog howls at the moon

the cat hisses at the sun

coincide with energy

smashing minds

molding thoughts

indifferences cook slow

is living worth repeating?

as the leaves slip through the cracks,

oak or maplewood replace the ground

naked branches,

revealing beauty

nudity companies the roots

as autumn turns over,

green follicles.

red follicles.

orange follicles.

“rather provocative way to greet me”

cold slashes to my sternum

the grey blade mixed with blood

splashes as the leaves return

viewing an eternal massacre

the world stops.

time freezes.

to answer my question,

it’s only one response.

i am reborn.
